Photoshop Elements Tutorials




These Photoshop Elements Tutorials cover some of the possible ways this software can be used in digital scrapbooking. There are many digital scrapbook software options out there, Photoshop Elements (PSE) is a versital option.

PSE 7 was used in developing these Photoshop Elements tutorials. If you are using a different version there may be some differences in completing the steps covered.

Give Color Photos and Aged Look






Convert Color Photos to Black and White

This Photoshop Elements tutorial will explain how to convert a color photo to black and white. This technique is great for giving your photos and scrapbook a classic look. Some photos can be quite striking in black and white.

  1. Open Your Photo
    Go to File, click on Open and select photo.




  2. Select a style
    Choose the style that best fits the type of photo you are working with or the effect you want; ei: Portraits, Scenic Landscapes or Newspaper, Infrared Effect. You may also adjust the intensity by sliding the buttons with your mouse.



  3. Click Ok
    Before you click Ok you may click Undo if you are not satisfied with the results. You may also click Reset Image to return the original black and white image. When you are happy with your photo click Ok.




  4. Save Image
    If you wish to save your black and white photo as a new file (leaving the original file as a color photo) go to File and click on Save As. In the Save As window type a new name for your photo in the File Name box. Select a Format from the drop down list, usually .jpeg. Click Save.

    Convert Photos to Sepia Tone

    This Photoshop Elements tutorial will explain how to convert a color photo to sepia tone. This technique is great for giving your photos a vintage look.

    Make your new photos look like those treasured vintage photos of an era gone by.

    1. Open Your Photo
      Go to File, click on Open and select photo.

    2. Remove Color
      Go to Enhance, Adjust Color and click Remove Color.



    3. Convert to Sepia Tone
      Go to Enhance, Adjust Color and click Color Variation. This will open a window showing a before and after photo and the options available for Color Variations.



      1. Select Area of Image to Adjust
        In the Color Variations window select Midtoneson the left hand side. You may also adjust the intensity by sliding the button on the lower left.

      3. Adjust Your Image
        In the Color Variations window select the buttons you want to adjust the image. Increase Red and Decrease Blue work well for sepia tone. You may also click the buttons to lighten or darken the image.

      5. Undo or Reset
        If you aren't happy with the changes you've made you can click Undo to undo the last change made, or click Reset Image to return to the original image. When you are satisfied with your image click Ok

      If you wish to save your sepia tone photo as a new file (leaving the original file as a color photo) go to File and click on Save As. In the Save As window type a new name for your photo in the File Name box. Select a Format from the drop down list, usually .jpeg. Click Save.

      Give Color Photos an Aged Look

      This Photoshop Elements tutorial will explain how to give a color photo an aged look. This is Another way to make newer photos look like they've been around awhile.

      This is the same as the technique for adding color variations to a black and white photo, here we are keeping the color.

      1. Open Your Photo
        Go to File, click on Open and select photo.



      2. Add Aged Look to Photo
        Go to Enhance, Adjust Color and click Color Variation. This will open a window showing a before and after photo and the options available for Color Variations.
