acid free

by mandi

When useing acid free products.... do all of them need to be acid free? Are there products that won't say, or are there products I should know I dont have to worry about the acid? I'm a new scrapbooker and I just want to make sure my books are not falling appart in so many years.

On the safe side

Mandi,

Thank you for taking time to ask a question. We all want the time and effort we put into our scrapbooks to last for many years.

It is always better to use all acid free products in your scrapbook.

The only time I would consider including something that isn't acid free is memorabilia. If possible I would scan or copy and print the memorabilia (ie: photo or document). If the item isn't something that you can successfully scan or copy, then try to put the item in a memorabilia pouch or used buffered paper behind the item.

Most scrapbooking supplies are marked acid free. If you are not sure about an item you can test it using a ph testing pen. Most scrapbook supply stores should sell these pens.

To me photos are the stars of the scrapbook page and I scrapbook to preserve memories. I want to make sure my photos will be safe for many years.
